Public Timetables

09-1923
In the 1920's to 1950's, SP used "Form" numbers and letters, as a shorthand method of identifying timetable coverage regions, but some timetables nevertheless lacked these identifiers. Further, form designations for any given territory frequently changed over time. Shasta Route timetables (among others) went from two different numbers to letters and then back to numbers again (see below). Why the company felt compelled to continually rearrange these ID's is unknown to us.

I recently purchased this January, 1926 SP Shasta Route public timetable on eBay - then Bob the termite proceeded to eat it. Bob was what entomologists call a bull termite, and he certainly was a big guy, eh? I say "was", because I did not notice that Bob had attached himself to the timetable before I closed the scanner lid.

Washington - Sunset Route
The following large, double-sided foldout brochures put out jointly by SP, Southern Ry., Louisville & Nashville and Atlanta & West Point advertised through "Coast to Coast" standard and tourist Pullman Sleeping car service and included schedules. Advertising for the route continued into the Amtrak era in a more modest form.
