The ICG's ex-
Gulf Mobile & Ohio Venice, Illinois Roundhouse
May 1980

Venice Illinois is located between East Saint Louis and Granite City, south of the approach to the TRRA's elderly Merchants bridge over the Mississippi River. As Wx4 staff understands it, the roundhouse and adjoining yard progressively belonged to the Alton Railroad, GM&O, ICG, Gateway Western and today the yard is KCS property. The roundhouse today? Wx4's best guess answer: what roundhouse?

above: SW9 473, built in 1951
below: no mistaking GP35 2529 as ex-GM&O (631, built in 1965), since it rides on trade-in ALCO FA trucks; IC's only ALCO's were six C630's and eight HH660's

above: the 2529 again, with 1972-built GP10 8007 (later sold to MidSouth Rail), and brand-spanking-new GP11 8727, built 1980; another HumongOphoto of the 8007 & 8727, this time with SW7 469 (1951); below: the cab track next to the yard office; Wx4 staff recalls the overhead as being the approach to the TRRA Merchants bridge; yes, experts?
