It is quite apparent that a certain Mr. Henderson was not at all thinking of Southern Pacific Railraod when he drew up the editorial cartoon seen below. In early 1942, people generally had more important things to think about.

But oh, what an inspiration for Photoschlocking! The first thing that I noted was that "Southern Pacific" surely resembled SP's blockhead lettering of 15 years hence, but what soon hit me was how well the drawing figuratively depicted the great disaster of 1996, when UP firmly dug its clutches into SP. So, with apologies to Mr. Henderson, I offer my own take on his creepy drawing. And thanks for nothing, Phil Anschutz! - EO
