Prior to succumbing to Wagonmania, I owned three CJ's:
- 1947 CJ2a - my first vehicle at age 18 in 1968. Basically stock, it was a real money pit. After a year, I gave up on it and sold it for what I'd paid for it: $775. You'll find a photo elsewhere, although for the total Wx4 experience, you really should start here.
- 1961 (2?) Tuxedo Park - Jeep number two came in that awful salmon color and burnt valves. I bought it in 1970, after selling the motorcycle. I dumped a Chevy 327 into it, and eventually blew up the T-90 tranny, of course. It lasted a year. No photographic evidence located thus far.
- 1951 CJ3a - I bought this baby, still in orginal grey with red lettering, in 1977. One day, I was late for class (twas teaching high school at the time) and I kinda screwd up the flattie by driving it full-out for about ten miles. So, I made a few changes: Chevy 327, Muncie four-speed, sagnaw steering, Warn overdrive and hubs, humongous radiator, windshield washer; auxiliary gas tank. She was a good rig that I owned for more than ten years. Here she is in 1980, after the mods, but still in the original + rust paint - I saw no reason for a new paint job:
