If I hadn't decided to take my son Tom to a show featuring 3500 hot rods, this Web page would never have happened. The bug hit...hard! But not any bug - the Willys bug. It had layed dormant for twenty years.

Although I had owned three CJ's in the past, I had always wanted a wagon, so I began searching ads. After three months, I happened upon the picture at right in an Internet ad. The ad said it was a wagon, but what in the...???

Willys Station Wagons are not common in my locale, which is the only reason that I answered the ad. I mean, after all.. I was over fifty and this was definitely a young man's toy. But, still, I was looking for a father - son project, so...

1st Picture: Photo of the Rock Ape that appeared in "Joe's" ad on the internet. You've got to admit that that tilt-front is kind of a hook, eh? Unless you're looking for a stock Wagon.

Picture No. Two: After the sale was complete (once my son, Tom and I saw the Wagon in person, there was no doubt), we brought a car dolly to tow the new toy home. I quickly showed that I was a dolly nincompoop, so Joe took over. The big trick here, as Joe would demonstrate, is to deflate the tires after winching the vehicle on to the dolly. After securing the tie down straps, you reinflate the tires with your handy dandy Costco portable battery/charger/compressor. Slick.

Last Picture: Ready to go, Joe and I contemplate the cosmic consequences of what has taken place. Joe was unhappy that he was forced to sell, and could not bear to see me drive off. Incidentally, note the American flag - what's more 'Merican than a Willys, anyhow?
