	I last searched for photos at UC Santa Cruz Library one afternoon in early 1972 during a snow storm (has that phenomenon since repeated itself?). I observe that the climate has changed considerably since then. Now, the wonders of the Internet increasingly bring institutional source material to researchers - sans intervening snow - rather than the other way around. It seems that the universal task ahead is to fully take advantage of such opportunities as they present themselves. Here, Tim Zukas has certainly done just that. - EO Tim Zukas previously has contributed literally many thousands of railroad timetables and maps for download on Wx4. Recently he discovered UC Santa Cruz Library's Russell (George) Aerial Photography Collection, a trove of 2164 early/mid 20th Century high resolution images that explains landscapes in ways that ground-based photography cannot. As we understand it, these downloadable images reside in the public domain. Recognizing their value in conjunction with the fact that a substantial number of the images have minimal, if any, accompanying description, Tim has taken on the task of identifying their subject matter in the hope of generating discussions about same. In that direction he has started quite a few threads in the Nostalgia & History section at trainorders.com under the author name of timz. Evan identified 68626: the PE curve is 34.048N 118.493W. 68301 and 68276 are looking SE at Vernon — the streetcar intersection is 34.0040N 118.2303W. Take a look at 69422. See that boxy apartment bldg below center and just left of center — this one https://maps.app.goo.gl/jpsPqp1RCVS8iqyj6 It's on the corner of north-south Baker St and east-west Green St. Looking at 69422, go a block south from there to Vallejo St, which is the bottom of the hill up to Broadway. A block east of there, you see a similar climb on Broderick St. Looks like both of those hills are streets, open to the public, which they aren't now. Broderick was a 34.5% climb, and Baker was just a bit steeper. Wonder how long those streets existed. That's the only reason 69422 is in my list.
